Anna hyvän kiertää ry on perustettu kasvattamaan yhteistyötä julkisen, yksityisen ja kolmannen sektorin välillä fokuksena lasten ja nuorten terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin edistäminen. Toiminta perustuu avoimen yhteistyön, verkostoitumisen ja vastuullisen yrittämisen malliin. Yhdistyksen roolina on toimia hyvinvoinnin prosessorina edesauttaen toimivien mallien jalkauttamista ja hyvien projektien levitystyötä Suomessa.

The theme of the Open Challenge evening coming up on Wednesday April 21^st at 6pm is health and wellness of children and youth. You’re welcome to join in the ideation and discussions and to hear what Hub Helsinki and Anna hyvän kiertää¹ are concretely all about.

Anna hyvän kiertää ry was founded to further cooperation between the public, private, and third sectors with a focus on the health and wellness of children and youth. It is based on a model of open cooperation, networking, and responsible entrepreneurship. The role of the organization is to enable the implementation of successful concepts and the spreading of good projects in Finland.

¹ “Anna hyvän kiertää” translates roughly into “let the good cycle” or, more idiomatically, “pay it forward”.

Pohdittavina olivat sensoriteknologia ja sen käyttötarkoitukset, lainauspalvelun (kuinoma.fi) jatkokehittäminen, lähiruokapalvelu ja Sitran web-palvelun uudistamishanke.

Sitran Karoliina Luodon johdolla jatketaan ideointia heidän web-hankkeensa osalta. Tämä tilaisuus on Hub Helsingissä  ti 23.2.2010  klo 9-10 Aleksanterinkatu 16-18. Pieni aamiaistarjoilu, ei tarvitse ilmoittautua etukäteen.

“Tervetuloa kuulemaan ideoimastamme Sitran verkkosivuprojektista, joka toivottavasti voisi hyödyttää verkkoalaa laajemminkin. Päätöksentekoon on menossa ehdotus avoimesta ja ketterästä kehitysprojektista, jossa synnytettäisiin paitsi organisaatiosivusto, myös keskustelua ja kokemuksia parhaista projektikäytännöistä ja verkkoratkaisuista.  Ennen päätöstä projektin käynnistämisestä haluamme jo jakaa tähänastiset mietteet ja kuulla talon sisä- ja ulkopuolelta, miten suunnitelmaa voisi  vielä kehitellä ennen päätöksentekoa.”

Jonathan suhtautui erittäin positiivisesti Hub Helsingin toimintaan tähän mennessä, ja näki jatkossa erityisesti yhteisön rakentamisen tärkeänä seuraavana askeleena. Hubin sijaintia pohdimme pitkään. Pääkaupunkiseutu on sinänsä alueena haasteellinen, sillä toimijat ovat hyvin hajallaan – teknoklusteria Otaniemen suunnalla, muotoilua ja mediaa Arabiassa, kulttuuritehdasta Kaapelissa jne jne. Joka tapauksessa viesti oli selkeä. Alue, jolla ei ole vielä selkeää luonnetta ja ominaispiirrettä on Hubin kannalta oivaa maaperää. Tosin tähän liittyy haasteensa. Keihäänkärkenä toimiminen vaatii, ei pelkästään uskoa, vaan yhteistyökumppaneita ja muita toimijoita, jotka uskovat samoin. Loppujen lopuksi toimintaympäristön tarjoamisen pitää olla kannattavaa toimintaa.

Katsomistamme tiloista erityisesti Suvilahdesta löytynyt tila, vanha voimalan hallintorakennus, sykähdytti, joskin puntaroimme edelleen sijaintia (tästä hieman lisää myöhemmin). Lisäksi saimme kutsun tammikuussa Lontoossa tapahtuvaan, uusille hubilaisille suunnattuun koulutukseen toiminnan pyörittämiseen liittyvistä käytännön asioista. Suomesta Jonathan jatkoi Riikan suuntaan, jossa on myös meneillään Hub-hanke.

English summary: Jonathan Robinson from Hub World paid us a brief visit and shared his thoughts on how Hub Helsinki is coming along and what we should be concentrating on next. He was positive about our progress and saw community building as an important focus area for the near future. We also checked out a few potential spaces, out of which we found the space we visited in Suvilahti to be particularly interesting. Stay tuned for more information.

Working Group Updates

The Space Working Group has been busy preparing a suitable space for The Hub Helsinki. If you want to contribute to this understandably time-consuming process, do get in touch with Harri Juntunen (harri.juntunen@hubhelsinki.fi).

As you’re reading this blog, you’re already familiar with the work of the Communications Working Group. Behind the scenes we’ve been working on defining our target groups and outcomes for each target group. We’re also in search of the right networks, both online and offline.

The Products and Members Working Group has tried to figure out what services we can offer our members and how that might differentiate us from similar offerings. We can build on the experiences from the global Hub network and add our own Helsinki spice to it.

Going Forward

We’ve got a visit from Hub Global in the works. This should give us a good kick forward. Stay tuned for more information!

We’ll be meeting every Monday evening at 5pm, continuing the conversations from here. In the mean time, get in touch with the Working Group coordinators and see how you can contribute to making The Hub Helsinki a reality.

Founding Process

The founding process of the Hub Helsinki cooperative roughly follows the Pellervo guide [Finnish], with The Hub Global providing input into the process. While we haven’t yet defined the process of becoming a co-owner of the coop, we did agree to set the joining fee to 500 €. This fee will not be necessary to be a member and user of The Hub.

The co-ownership fee is meant to be a way for people to own a piece of The Hub Helsinki and signal their commitment to building it further. In exchange the co-owners will get access to the space until the end of the year. We will limit access to the space to co-owners until Hub Helsinki opens its doors officially. We’re currently targeting a launch in March by latest.

HUB Helsinki Board of the Cooperative

We agreed to select Antti Karjalainen, Harri Juntunen, Janne Asmala, and Sami Oinonen as the members of the first board of Hub Helsinki. The board members will work actively with the other co-owners to secure the space and funding, while designing the initial service packages and keeping the communication channels open.

Next Steps

The next general assembly of the cooperative will be held on October 14th at 6pm in the Hub Helsinki premises.

1. Purpose of the meeting
2. The process of setting up a co-operative
3. Values and mission of the HUB Helsinki co-operative; including member criteria, process of becoming a member, price, what it entails etc.
4. Governance model and roles of the board members
5. Teams that work with, and in support of, the board
6. Plan for 2010 and the first co-operative member meeting in 2011
7. Anything that has been left out in items 1-6 but feels important.

What should emerge from the meeting is a clear and concise team of individuals that are taking things forward as planned in the meeting. The overall purpose of this acitivity is to create a place that is open to everyone that is interested in solving local and global problems, and social innovations, and a fun place to work!
