Hub Milano
Pysähdyin Milanossa matkallani konferenssiin Pohjois-Italiassa joten kävin tervehtimässä paikallista Hubia. Päivän host, Jgor Ognibeni toivotti minut lämpimästi tervetulleeksi ja esitteli paikan:
Hub Milanon upea tila on remontoitu vapaaehtoisvoimin, ja melkein kaikki materiaali on kierrätettyä. Suuri, korkea työskentelytila, korkea on jaettu kahteen kerrokseen kelluvan, läpinäkuvän lattian avulla, ja tilan katto on yhtä suurta ikkunaa josta päivänvalo pääsee sisään. Nyt yläkerrassa oli tietenkin kuumaa kuin Jamaikalla, mutta talvella se on kuulemma paras paikka työskennellä.
Pahvista tehtyjä pöytiä ja kengänvalmistuksessa ylijääneestä materiaalistä käärittyjä istuimia… arkipäiväisiä asioita oli ratkaistu mielikuvituksellisesti, ja se toimii! Jäsenten kuvat seinällä, postilokerikko pahvista, ruukkukukka pahvisen pöytälevyn kolossa, tilanjakaja-äänenvaimennin-kirjahylly, maailman kartta maalattuna seinälle… Lisää kuvia facebook-sivulla.
Tila on kokonaisuudessaan melko suuri, työhuoneen lisäksi kaksi suurta huonetta kokouksia ja tapahtumia varten, ja lisäksi useita pienempiä huoneita. Tämä on osoittautunut ajan myötä hyväksi, vaikka aluksi tuntuikin siltä että tiloja on liikaa. Jäsenet ovat alkaneet järjestää niin paljon tapahtumia, että kaikki tilat ovat tarpeen.
Kysyin Jgorilta hänen motiiveistaan Hubilla pyörimiseen, ja hän vastasi: “Opiskelen lakia, ja unelmanani perustaa oma yritys, on auttaa muita yhteiskunnallisia yrittäjiä perustamiseen liittyvien lakiasioiden kanssa. Olen mukana Hubin toiminnassa aktiivisesti, sillä täällä tapaan juuri sellaisia ihmisiä, jotka varmasti voisivat olla asiakkaitani tulevaisuudessa. Joka päivä tulee tilanteita joista opin todella paljon – käytännön kautta.”
Yksi Hub Milanon lähitulevaisuuden projekteista on rohkaista jäseniään täydentämään profiilisivuaan. Siten verkostoituminen voisi alkaa rullata helpommin itsestään. Hub avattiin maaliskuussa 2010 ja nyt sillä on jo 170 jäsentä – hostien alkaa olla haasteellista tuntea kaikki. “Muutama päivä sitten me järjestettiin pikaverkoistoitumisilta, se oli mahtavaa – paljon kipinöintiä, yhteistyömahdollisuuksia ilmassa!”

I was traveling through Milano to a conference in northern Italy, and I wanted to say hello the local Hub. I was warmly welcomed by the host of the day, Jgor Ognibeni, who introduced me to the folks and the space.
The premises of Hub Milano have been renovated by a bunch of volunteers, and it looks stunning. Almost all of the the material is recycled. The main working room has been split in two layers by a floating floor, and the roof is totally open for the sunlight to come in. Now it was of course hot as Jamaica, but in the winter it’s the best place to be.
I saw tables made out of cardboard, cushions of leftover shoe soles, walls from recycled windows… I loved the way how imagination has been used in solving practical issues, the members wall and the postboxes, the potted flower in a hole on the table, a wall dividing the space and functioning as a shelf, the map of the world painted on the wall… more pictures in our facebook site.
The space is quite big, besides of the working room there are two quite big meeting rooms and several smaller ones. That has turned out to be very good – in the beginning this was a little bit too much space, but now the members are arranging many events, so all the rooms are needed.
I asked Jgor about his own motives to be involved, and he said:
“I study law, and my dream is to help other social entepreneurs find solutions to questions about law and regulations when they are starting their businesses. I work here in the Hub as a volunteer, because here I get to meet many starting enterpreneurs and I learn so much of that daily life – in practice.”
One of the next projects of the Hub Milano is to encourage every member to fill their profiles better, so the networking could happen by itself. The office in opened in March 2010 and there are over 170 members now. It’s getting challenging for the hosts to know everyone. “Just the other day we arranged a speed networking event, it was really cool – there are were so many possibilities and synergies in the air!”
